Mathare United were unable to hang onto the lead and lost 2-1 to Ulinzi Stars on Friday in their Tusker Premier League match at the Moi Internaiotnal Sports Stadium.
Eric Johana scored in the opening minutes of the contest after new signing Ishmael Dunga was able to get on the end of a perfect cross from Noah Abich and pass the ball to Johana who fired home.
The soldiers came close to scoring in the 35th minute when Oliver Ruto’s header was pushed away by Robert Mboya in the Slum Boys goal.
Five minutes later Kevin Amwayi scored after a long range shot beat Mboya and the scores were 1-1 going into the half time break.
Ulinzi Stars then started the second half the better side with Birgen forcing Mboya into diving saving before Mwangi had a chance to score for the Slum Boys only for his effort to go wide.
Head Coach Stanley Okumbi was forced to change keepers when injury struck for Mboya and Peter Odhiambo was quickly called into action, saving another Amwayi shot.
He was though unable to do a untying when Jonte Nairuka scored in the 70th minute from a long range shot.
The score finished 2-1 to the soldiers.
